Say No to War

Today, more than 5000 people have gathered in front of the US embassy to express their dissatisfaction, that US did not play their role in the pursuit of a permanent ceasefire between Israel and Palistine.

And today, Malaysia, a small country in the eyes of the world, has stepped up and called for a UN special session in hope to end the Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip.

Today, I'm proud to be a Malaysian.

This has nothing to do with being pro-Palestine or pro-Jihad. This has nothing to do on who started it first or who's supplying the arms to who. To me, and many many small people and small voices across the world, what mattered to us is that the killing of innocent people and children must be stopped immediately. Bombing of the UN schools is unacceptable. If violence is the only way to solve the problem, I have no problem for both sides to identify a battlefield which is free of civillians, they can fire as much bullets/rockets as they like and bring each other to hell.

As for you, who are reading this, please spend a few minutes to read through the news. Those who were sacrificed deserve a little bit of our time, as a citizen of the global village, let us all remember what had happened in the past 14 days (and unknown days to come).

God please have mercy....

Boycott Ci**bank

In foul mood now, better jot it down now before garfield helps to flush away all my anger... need a reminder of this incident so that I'll remember to complain kao kao and lobby everyone around to boycott this bank!!!

OK. Here's what happened.

3 weeks ago, garfield, Lio and me were persuaded by a nice lady from Ci**bank to sign up for their credit card. She kept stressing that it's very very easy to get a card from this bank, free for life, and we'll be fine without our pay slip as they only need our employment contract.

And so we thought, well yeah, nothing to lose, and we filled in the form n sent in our contract.

Then passed a week. and 2. and 3.

i got more and more anxious as I really need the card for my US trip. I tried calling that lady to her desk phone and also her cell phone (numbers are provided on her business card which I now doubt whether its a coax). She never picked up the phone.

Today I lost my patience. 4 days away from my flight to US. I cant just sit and wait. I called the card center and guess what? I found out that they've rejected my application 2 weeks ago and they never bother to inform me!!!!

I got really really pissed off and i demanded the customer service ppl to give me an explanation.
But all they could say is:
"The reason of rejection is confidential."
"We're very sorry"
"Would you like me to pass the call to that sales agent?"

Idiot.
Cant believe that this is how the so-called international bank do business.

My points are:
1. If you reject, thank you very much, please inform me so that I can go to other banks who would like to earn my money.

2. I feel very uncomfortable now with the fact that I was never able to contact the sales agent. I'm seriously doubting whether she has taken our personal details and sold it for some bad reasons.

3. Never trust in these so-called international BIG banks. The way they do business is just as nasty as any other roadside hawkers. They just dont value their potential customers (well, they may think that I'm poor now, but I wont be poor forever), and they failed to realize that all those people that they don't value have mouths too (and blogs).

So people, I believe there are other banks who would put in more respect and value in their customers. At least I never felt so pissed off throughout my whole life while I'm banking with M**bank.

Transformers

Spent whole day in KLCC: morning went to work out at gym (and i'm getting more and more addicted to gym), and afternoon we watched Transformers...

I've never been a fan of transformers, so I went in with a total blank mind with no idea of what's going on at all except knowing that these transformers are a pile of metal pieces who "
transforms" =P

Well, overall I liked the movie. Plenty of humour in it, in fact the whole cinema laughed all the way (except of the final fighting part of course). And the auto-bots are so cute =P but the downside of the movie is, the actions are just too exciting for me until i felt a bit drowsy with those flying up and down scenes...

And another surprise - Linkin Park's what I've done is a major soundtrack, and it appeared in the movie!! (i'm ashamed to say that I'm a LP fan...)

OGA 2007

Yesterday I have visited one of the most luxuriously decorated exhibition that I've ever seen. Probably that's because most of the time, I only visited some general themed expos such as the Matta Fair and Career Fair...

I found out bout this expo from the paper, and coincidently Az sms me the same nite asking whether I'm attending this expo, and he said he's gonna buy me lunch =P Well of course with a free lunch awaiting (and I myself wanted very much to visit this expo), and according to az, plenty of freebies awaits... Haha...


I got there around 10.30am. The expo opens from 10am to 6pm on 13-14 June, and from 10am to 5pm on 15 June. But I had to queue up to register myself and redeem a visitor's pass, and the queue was almost half a mile long!!! (according to some Scomi ppl...) It took me one whole hour to line up just to get the entry pass... And I was already half dead when I got hold of it... (I was wearing high heels and office wear)...


And finally...




Aiya... wrong spelling of my name pulak... But I felt really happie to see my company's name =P

So I waited for Az and Usop to get their tags and we entered the expo. The 1st thing that I said to Az was..."see? SLB is always the biggest..." (he's gonna work for SLB)

Honestly saying, this was the 1st time that I saw booth with 2 levels... maybe I'm too sua ku =P
I wonder how much they paid for this booth; they had a lounge on the 2nd level with couches, and they're giving out free coffees. On the ground level, they have their product and model displays and a counter giving out freebies (bags and pens).

Shell's booth

Very futuristic and classy booth, but probably because it's too spacious (and shell's not giving out freebies), it had less visitors. But it has a lounge and coffee counter too =)

Petronas' Booth

I think the most interesting part about Petronas' booth is their F1 Driving simulator. Anyone can try out on the simulator and the best driver of the day will win a prize =)
and the 2nd most interesting thing would be the complete map of Malaysia indicating all the oil and gas blocks along with their operators. That was really informative, especially for newbies like me...

Technip's booth

They've got a very nice SPAR model on display, and if you go near to it, one of their managers will enthusiastically explain to you how special their SPAR is, and how their global analysts team have made their SPAR stable itself without the need of mooring lines =)
And oh ya, their HR ppl asked me to promote on this - pass your resume to them and they'll give you an optical mouse for free!!

It was indeed a fruitful visit, not only I got to see all these interesting technologies, I also managed to meet up with friends and Gouramians =)

iGoogle - Cute!

This morning while reading the papers, I came across a piece of review on iGoogle. And since i'm just a procrastinator with nothing to do, I went on to try out the themes and features of iGoogle... and they're so cute =)

The header/theme changes with our local time and weather...

But now, in the afternoon, the frog and beatle changed activity ady =)

Just now... late afternoon... they changed activity again... kekeke....

At night... 10pm... not sleeping yet...

So cute... and it allows you to choose widgets for your iGoogle mainpage...

Like mine, I chose a few major newspapers' widgets and also my Gmail. So it's really convenient, 1st thing in the morning, within one webpage, I'm able to read the headlines from 3 papers plus check my mail =)

And most importantly... it's so cute....

Bali Bali here I come...

Wah. Getting more and more excited. 2 more days and I'll be off to Bali!!!
My last oversea vacation was 1.5 yrs ago. Whole family went to China. We ended up extending the trip cause - me and my sis lost our passports. Lolz.

But now, the 2 Miss Chongs are off for vacations again!
RH is currently in Macau/Hongkong now. (not sure where she is. her itinerary remains a mistery to us.)

It only took me less than 30 mins to pack 80% of my luggage. Guess i'm quite an experienced traveller. Haha.
Now what's left to pack are only those tiny miny things such as comb and tooth brush.
(and myself.)

Cool. Somebody has approached me to become their band's vocalist. Cool.
Seems like they're quite established. Released a demo few years ago, have their own website.

I'm still considering. I don't mind joining them occasionally for some jamming and gigs, but i doubt whether i could really commit as a band member. So still considering.

For now, my 1st option will still be singing in cafes. There are 2 min ge cafes around my area. Plan to go for audition after i settle down with my job.

But it feels good to be "wanted" rather than always a disposable item.

Brain Storm - New vs Old Management Style

Hmm. Seems like my previous 3 posts have been quite negative. Time to get rid of it and inject some positivity into my life and blog.

Very very happy that a close friend of mine has just got a job offer from Shell. Congrats my dear =) So glad that we'll be working in the same company, and one day we can go to Tango class together =)

Oh ya. Everyone please check out the new online TV service at www.worldip.tv . I tried out this morning, and its so nice to be able to watch 东方卫视 for free =) and i was quite lucky. At that time, they were airing a talk show called "Brain Storm", and the topic for the session is about the management style of the "after 80s" (meaning those born in 80s, that's us). Debate was participated by 3 parties: the "after 80s" bosses/CEOs, the "before 80s" bosses/CEOs (uncles), and the "after 80s" workers.

Point of views voiced out by these 3 parties:

1. "after 80s" bosses

Boss A:
Never do bad things. (which an "uncle" boss commented as kindergarden teacher teaching kids)
Keep things simple.
Creativity.

Boss B:
Round table evaluation/communication.
Uncle asked whether she adopted this strategy from somewhere.
she said that she's trying to build up/establish continuity from her HQ culture. (文化传承)
Then uncle shoot her: you only stayed in HQ for one month and you're spreading their "culture"? So you'll be able to spread Japanese culture after living there for one month?
Young lady boss got speechless.

Boss C:
Open communication. By this he meant that he allows his staffs to send him anonymous e-mails to complain/criticize him or anything.
One of the worker representative asked him: would this affect your influence/credibility as the boss?
He replied: no. i'm the one paying them salary. that's the basis of influence.
Uncle commented: good. you got the right kinda "boss" attitude.

Boss D:
There are 4 stages of industrial management.
1st stage: passion. refering to starting up a new business, when you have minimal number of workers, everyone needs to be very fired up. (uncle commented that the fire cant burn for long, while another uncle said that the main point is to keep the fire steady and long).
2nd stage: control (管)
3rd stage: manage (理)
4th stage: self-manageable, meaning that the team is mature enough to move by its own. (无管理, 靠团队)


2. "after 80s" workers

These are some of the observations/feedbacks provided by these young workers regarding their experience of working under young bosses.

Their (here means the young bosses) minds are very active. Today got an idea. Tomorrow got another new idea. everyday change. makes it real hard for the staffs to keep up.

They are impulsive (冲动), but it comes along with confidence.


3. "Before 80s" bosses:

These young bosses ought to be more careful with their promises, especially when they're promising to their staffs. They tend to over-promise, and end up unable to deliver.

The things that they said are not solid enough (for example, their answers when an audience asked them about their business's direction for the next 5 years) . They like to say empty statements such as "I want our company to be the biggest ............. in China" in dont know how many more years to come, with no specific direction/planning or measurable targets.

The show was only an hour. Very compacted one, full of debates and cross-bombing. This is all the points that i can remember (I watched this prog 12 hours ago). I find them quite interesting, and definitely worth my time to write them down. Hope you guys find it interesting too.

Extraordinary Wedding Photos

Mind you, these are all real sceneries. It's a new concept of wedding photo shooting. It's a sightseeing tour cum photo shooting. This picture below is taken at Jiu Zhai Gou (九寨沟). This is where 神雕侠侣 was filmed.


This one here (below) is taken at Li Jiang (丽江). Li Jiang is a tourist spot which has been recognized by UN as a world heritage.

M.Sc in Offshore Engineering @ TU Delft

Ever since I lost my dreams 6 months ago, finally I found something wonderful as a new entry for my dream list. Today I spent some unproductive time to surf around the net for a post-grad program that focuses on offshore engineering. Seems like not many unis around the world are offering such program, but at last I found a perfect package offered by Delft University of Technology. This 2 years program is packed with basics of offshore engineering, and it also offers majoring in deepwater and subsea engineering. Browsing through the course brochure really made me feel excited.

So now I'll just have to discuss with my capability development manager once i'm onboarded about this plan of mine to further study in Delft. And another big issue will be $$$. But it feels so good to have something to daydream about =)

Got a bit bored of Friendster Blog. Too little customization allowed, very user friendly for beginners though. So I thought it's time for me to try out some new stuffs, move to a new house. Hehe...

Here I am, new house for the lazy/hungry mouse (that's how I call myself when I talk to my sis). (Don't really know what crap I wanna write....)

Nice weather today. All my babies are sleeping soundly on bed. (Baby snores) Waiting for 10am to come when I'll go meet up with En Zulkifli to discuss about the PAP Drainage plan. Then will go to concrete lab to become Bangla and tie some reinforcement bars. And I really need some "significant progress" for my Tank Model. Argh....
